QkRad – An Approach to Improving Radiation Detection and Locating Radioactive Material Faster

In collaboration with DTRA, this project improved the localization of radioactive materials, especially in dense urban environments where many obstacles, including buildings, obstruct a clean signal.

How It Works

GTC Analytics’ QkRad algorithm utilizes data from radiation detectors and employs radiation physics to statistically estimate the potential location(s) of the radiation source(s). If radiation is found, our solution provides directions to the exact location of the source. While moving, the detector continues to collect data, which is used to update and refine the algorithm’s estimate. This technique can be applied to single detectors or fuse data from multiple detectors for better results and faster localization
